Mount Pleasant entrepreneurs develop educational game

inspiring kids and families to unplug and imagine

Kids today seem far more interested in what is taking place on a screen than what’s happening right in front of them. Charleston entrepreneurs Marcie Jacobs and Ellen Stebbins are on a mission to inspire kids and their families to unplug from technology and come together with STORY CRAZE® by StoryClub Games, the hilarious new creative writing and storytelling game that’s filled with laughter and learning.

Have you heard the story of Shane the red-haired shark surfing the pyramids of Egypt on a magic carpet? STORY CRAZE uses cue cards of random people, places and things to ignite outside-the-box thinking, allowing players to create outrageously witty, laugh out loud stories.

How did two corporate executives come together to create this most original and already loved tabletop game? Following 25 successful years in advertising working with national retail chains, Jacobs felt a need to feed her creative spirit. In 2010 she founded StoryClub Games with the launch of Girl’s Night which quickly became a “must have” for a fun evening with friends.

“After the success of Girl’s Night, I always knew I wanted to create a kids’ version with even more outlandish cues. Kids are so wildly creative, it was a natural fit,” Jacobs says.

After 10 years as a Certified Financial Planner with Merrill Lynch in Boston, Stebbins was drawn to Charleston where her entrepreneurial spirit kicked into high gear. Stebbins quickly became known around town as ‘The Connector’ for her ability to cultivate relationships. A master at seeing opportunity, she immediately fell in love with Girl’s Night at a networking event and joined the StoryClub team in 2012, orchestrating or as she likes to say ‘maestro-ing’ everything from corporate strategy to digital marketing as the COO.

Following initial development, Jacobs and Stebbins worked for a full year with a team of kids (known as Team Crazy) perfecting every hilarious detail. Having been successfully funded on Kickstarter, STORY CRAZE officially hit retailer shelves debuting in Charleston’s Wonder Works this October. Available nationwide online, STORY CRAZE has been a hit with kids, parents and educators alike.

What people are saying about STORY CRAZE:

“We’re so excited to have it in our stores,” says Christine Osbourne, owner of Wonder Works. “It was created with kids and it’s filled with wacky ideas, twists, turns, tons of laughter, and crazy stories. It makes magic happen while imaginations run wild! Wonder Works Rates it 10+++”

“STORY CRAZE® is a hit with our ELA teachers,” says Ryan Cumback, M. Ed. Principal of Moultrie Middle School. “They tell me their students love using the game cards as clues to compose inventive stories. The game has added a terrific push to get our kids thinking and imagining way beyond the normal school day.”

“This game is really cool for kids with special needs,” says Hector Salazar, Dad. “My son loves to play and it helps him express his thoughts and ideas. We love playing it together and making up silly stories.”

“I usually play video games,” says Jack, kid member of team crazy “But Story Craze is so fun. My friends and I laugh so hard.”
