Teen Pitch Tank To Feature Westlake Student

Jill won for her bicycle anchor, which allows riders to lock a bicycle in locations that do not have appropriate areas to secure bicycles.

From Westlake High School: Westlake High School senior Jillian Eddy was named one of five winners of Teen Pitch Tank through the Young Entrepreneur Institute at University School for her build-it-yourself bicycle anchor lock invention.

Teen Pitch Tank chooses 15 finalists and five winners based on their ideas for a product business, service business, social enterprise that helps people or the environment, or a technology business. Jill won for her bicycle anchor, which allows riders to lock a bicycle in locations that do not have appropriate areas to secure bicycles.

Entries were judged on the viability of the product, service or invention; the creativity of the business idea, name, tagline and video; and persuasiveness of the pitch. You can watch Jill’s winning video at http://www.youngentrepreneurinstitute.org/high-school/teen-pitch-tank/.

As a winner, Jill will receive a tablet computer, $100 cash, a one-year supply of Coca Cola sparking beverages, four Cleveland Indians tickets, and a $1,000 to $2,000 annual renewable Ahuja Business Leadership Scholarship to the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University. Winners will be acknowledged at an April 11 Celebrate Youth Entrepreneurship event at University School.

Last fall Jill was named one of five national finalists in Marvel Studios’ THOR: RAGNAROK SUPERPOWER OF STEM CHALLENGE for her bicycle anchor. Last year she was part of a WHS team that won Best in State and Best in Region in the Verizon App Challenge for their Alert-U app.

Jill is involved in technology programs at WHS and Hyland Software, as well as the WHS art program. She participated in Symphonic Band and Marching Band. She spend time as part of St. Angela’s Youth Group and teacher learn-to-skate lessons. She also produces training videos for the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. Jill intends to major in design and engineering in college.
