Hundreds of youths stormed Excellence Hotel, Ogba, recently, eager to get the N5m on offer by The Next Titan Nigeria reality show.
The entrepreneurial show, now in its fifth edition, has produced four winners, each of whom went home with N5m and a Ford car.
These are apart from the mentoring they received from the seasoned entrepreneurs that constitute Next Titan’s jury.
Powered by Bravopoints International Ltd, with Mide Kunle-Adelaja as the executive producer, the Season Five has Brains, Charisma, and Audacity as its theme.
Most of the people who turned up for the audition are young graduates who have, however, initiated one small scale business or the other.
Some of them noted that they believed that their dreams were good enough to woo the jurors, adding that they needed the cash to boost their ideas.
In recent years, a good number of the reality shows that graced the Nigerian Tv scene have disappeared, especially when recession descended on all and sundry. But Next Titan, which deviates from several others that focus on entertainment, has endured. According to Kunle-Adelaja, kudos should go to sponsors of the programme, who believe that Nigeria is in need of people who can liberate the economy from its dependence on oil.
“You will also note that the era of youths, especially graduates, staking all their lives on white-collar jobs is over. The jobs are not even there in most cases. So, we believe that we must explore ideas and projects that can initiate young Nigerians into the investment world while boosting the morale of those who have already started one business or the other.”
The Lagos audition eventually produced 30 contestants, who emerged after a training session and short-listing by the organisers.
They joined the 33 contestants previously selected from the Abuja, Port-Harcourt and Enugu auditions.
The producer adds that the next stage of the show, tagged the Boot-Camp, will house the 66 candidates.
Kunle-Akinlaja says, “The selected ones will get to network and compete amongst themselves for a duration of three days. Afterwards, the top 16 finalists will be announced at the premiere which will be held at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Next Titan, “Gives an opportunity to young talented Nigerians who have great and innovative business ideas to compete against one another in a bid to ultimately win N5M and a brand new car to start their new business or to support their existing business.
“The judges are top Nigerian business leaders who will mentor the contestants and millions of viewers. The mentorship aspect of the show will also see some young successful entrepreneurs visiting the contestants on a weekly basis.”
He adds that the sponsor of the show remains Heritage BankPlc, with Sifax Group as its associate sponsor. Also supporting it are Ford Coscharis Motors, Air Peace Airline, Eternal Oil Plc, Nikky Taurus Ltd, Hygeia HMO, AfromediaPlc, Bedmate Furniture and Tiannah’s Place.
